*a tsunami from a 7.0 earthquake is not
[12/7/2024 Edit note: I attempted this post on my phone. Spoiler, it’s not very easy, so I’ve had to wait until I could get to my Mac to do some minor editing. My apologies, and I promise not to do that again. ]
To all my well-meaning friends the world over, thank you for your concern. Really! 🥰
Yes, we had some quakes today, but remember those of us sitting on the Ring of Fire have quite a few of them and many structures are built for it (the others fell down).
They did do some damage close to the epicenters, but no deaths I’ve heard of.
So, there’s this thing called the Internet, where you may have heard of today’s events, where you can also see if the person you’re thinking about texting is likely to be in harm’s way (We’re fine, but we’re well away from the epicenter at 131 miles/211 km — we just had a little jiggle).
During one patient appointment today, he got a text from France, and I got texts from friends in South Africa, Sacramento and SoCal. I probably worried them more because I could not text them back for a while.
Please save our rural bandwidth (literally and figuratively) for the regional send-all alerts that drained our phones’ batteries today, and for the people up to their neck in 💩.
Despite what you may have heard, bandwidth in rural areas still sucks. Good luck if you need 911 in some areas. As for high-speed? LMAO.
I hope they are all ok, though I must say the LA Times click bait is not helping one damn thing:
Stop banning books, and start banishing the attention whores in legacy media. They fail us in so many, many ways.
p.s. No, here we don’t shoot at FEMA for taking our imaginary lithium mines. Some pot growers might. We really really really don’t like PG&E and we still don’t shoot at them, because the rest of us are not paranoid psychotic meth-addled idiots with fetal alcohol syndrome and the same genetics as everyone else in the neighborhood. SMDH.
I was in the local library with a three year old when phones went off all over the place - all you had time to see was the message drop and cover. I am a native Californian. I know the hazards of earthquakes but I also know the rolling or jolting moment that subsides to ordinary. I eyed the tables around me and chose the one that we would dive under if necessary..... and then came the tsunami alert. I'm about 8 miles inland so not likely to be personally impacted immediately. But, like you, family and friends texted asking if all was well. IDK.
Love this line: "Stop banning books, and start banishing the attention whores in legacy media."
Thanks for posting.
